Abstract : The effect of ageing time and Zn content variation on Al-Zn alloys were carried out on principle of spinodal decomposition to study the tribological behavior of Al-Zn alloys from 45 to 65 in wt. % Zn. Sand casting of three different alloy compositions were done with Al, and varying Zn content from 45 wt. % to 65 wt. %. Solution and ageing heat treatment was performed at temperature of 400 ºC and 300 ºC respectively. Ageing time varied was from 5 to 30 minutes. Measurement of micro-hardness and wear rate, of the alloy specimens was made. The maximum hardness and minimum wear rateoccurred at 45 wt. % Zn alloy system at ageing time of 15 minutes. However, the wear rate of the alloy and over ageing occurred faster as the Zn content of the alloy goes beyond 45 wt %. It indicates that Zn content has significant outcome on Al-Zn alloy system tribological properties by following spinodal hardening method.
