Abstract : The bronze alloys are expected to be used in bearings, bushings, propellers and wear plates in order to improve the performance of service. In order to have high service life, a research was conducted to analyse the titanium effect on the mechanical and wear properties of the bronze alloy. Alloys used in the present investigation were melted in an electric furnace under an inert atmosphere and were cast into a permanent mould. It was found that the hardness values of the alloys were observed to increase with an increase in titanium content and the wear rate values were found to decrease with an increase in the hardness and Titanium content. The coefficient of friction values for all the alloys was found to be independent of the hardness. Characterisation of the alloys was conducted to study the composition and wear mechanism of the developed alloys. © 2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
