Abstract : The design and characterization techniques of an improved analog multiplexer using CMOS analog switches is proposed in this paper. Suitable architectures of analog multiplexers are designed and compared by selecting a proper analog switch. Test circuits for on-resistance of an analog switch, crosstalk and break-before-make switching condition for an analog multiplexer are proposed. Further, parametric analysis is performed to study the effect of temperature and process variation. The design procedures has been applied using CMOS transmission gates where the analog input is 20 KHz with 3.3 V supply in CMOS 180 nm technology. Cadence Virtuoso Analog Design Environment is used for implementing the test circuits along with Hspice simulator. The major contribution of this paper is the implementation of break-before-make switching logic with only 4 transistors for a single switch.
