Abstract : Image processing has a major role in providing machine vision. One of the major objectives of a farmer is to enhance productivity at any cost. So weed removal in the crop area which is a labour intensive and expensive job is carried out by spraying concentrated chemicals throughout the field, which is hazardous to the environment. An alternative technique is patch spraying of herbicides. This will help in preserving the nutrient content of the soil to a great extent as well as in reducing the environmental pollution. In this paper distinction of two types of crops, carrot and curry leaf and weed identification in carrot field is done using the images. In future this algorithm can be implemented in mobile robots for patch spraying of herbicides. Also robotic arm can be incorporated so that the weeds can be plucked away and thereby an eco friendly farming can be adopted.
