Abstract : Inadequate charging infrastructure and the unavailability of fast chargers are significant hurdles in the rapid adoption of EVs. Several attempts have been made to develop EV chargers with features such as a high power density, low weight, low cost, and compact size. One of the popular converter topologies for high-power applications is the dual active bridge (DAB), owing to its inherent characteristics such as high efficiency, bidirectional power flow capability, galvanic isolation, and low number of passive components. DAB converters are being used in a wide variety of applications. Many control techniques have been proposed for this type of converter. In this study, a PI controller-based closed-loop DAB model of DAB for two control techniques: single phase shift (SPS) modulation and dual phase shift (DPS) modulation in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The results of both control techniques are compared, and a conclusion is made regarding their suitability for EV charging.
