Abstract : Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is defined as a continuing inflammatory disease of the pancreas characterized by irreversible morphological changes typically causing pain and/or permanent loss of function. The first reported usage of the term in English medical literature was probably by Comfort in the 1940s. In most of the patients in Western series, the predominant etiology was alcohol.
