Abstract : Biodiesel production is the process of transesterification of fatty acids into fatty acid methyl esters in the presence of catalyst. To produce quality biodiesel, various factors needs to be considered, such as selection of feedstock, catalyst, process, washing, etc. Among these factors, the biomass seed source is playing a vital role in the production of biodiesel. The by-product coming out from the extracted seed source has been effectively used as catalyst to produce biodiesel, which can be derived from various techniques for the preparation of catalyst used for transesterification process. The biodiesel production method is enhanced with selecting heterogeneous catalysts because of its simplicity, easy to prepare and separate and also high reusability, which have been reported in many literatures. This chapter is focused on the review of utilization of seed biomass as a catalyst for esterification or transesterification process which is used for biodiesel production.
