Abstract : In this paper, a visible light communication (VLC) in the indoor environment based on MIMO system is investigated and analyzed. An attempt is made to optimize the placement of light emitting diodes (LED) VLC emitter in 4 × 4 MIMO configuration at ceiling and ground floor for the receiver to obtain uniform signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the desired bit error rate (BER) in the given area. The system is also optimized for the necessary power transmission from LED emitters for the maximum data rate. Two channel coding techniques repetition code (RC) and spatial modulation (SM) are analyzed and their BER and data rate performance results are presented for different receiver spacing moving in the entire area. The result shows that RC gives almost constant SNR whereas SM offers better SNR ratio for more spacing between receivers. In the case of SM, only one transmitter will transmit at a time. So the SNR value will be very low at other corner of the room. © 2015 IEEE.
