Abstract : Bio-oil is a dark brown, free-flowing organic liquid that contains a huge amount of water (typically 15–35 wt.%) and hundreds of organic chemicals such as acids, phenols, ethers, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, furans, alkenes, esters, sugars, nitrogen compounds, and other oxygenates. Upon upgrading, many industrially important fuels and chemicals can be derived from bio-oil.
