Abstract : A novel technique to compute the antenna factor of a planar antenna, using surface integral equation is presented. The experimental nature of conventional antenna factor determining methods demand, that the actual experiment be carried under the same conditions under which the EMC antenna calibration was carried out. Antenna Factor data computed through analytical techniques aids in eliminating this constraint. A probe fed rectangular patch is considered. Antenna factor computation requires the knowledge of current density induced in the probe for various external fields. Scattering analysis is carried out. The basic equivalence concept of replacing the conducting surfaces with surface electric currents and dielectric surfaces with surface electric and surface magnetic currents is adopted. The integral equations are formulated using appropriate boundary conditions. The conventional Method of Moments solution procedure is adopted to determine the surface current values. The induced probe current density, computed over a range of frequencies, aid in calibrating the rectangular patch for its antenna factor.
