Abstract : Electric Vehicles (EV) are analogous to that of the normal vehicles, but combustion engine in EV has been replaced by electric motor. Motor need power supply to produce a mechanical output. For this purpose, battery is included in EV to energize motor. In plug-in EV, charging process is massive for users, in light of the fact that a charger is required for charging battery which is directly associated with the vehicle. In some cases, discharged battery is swapped with a fully charged battery for which infrastructure is much more complex and expensive. Making use of wireless power transfer (WPT) technology, charging of EV is made simple by eliminating problems associated with plug in type charging. This can revolutionaries the cable free power transfer which makes the life wireless. In this paper, a review is conducted on wireless charging system which includes classification of WPT based on distance factor, description of general block diagram and system components, deriving formula for efficiency, simulation of WPT circuit using PSIM software and hardware implementation of WPT for glowing an LED.
