Abstract : In this study, nanofillers like aluminium nitride (AlN) and functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) are incorporated individually at various weight percentages and in hybrid mode in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) analysis was employed to assess the distribution of nanofillers in ABS. Hybrid nanocomposite with 1.5 wt% of AlN nanoparticles and 0.5 wt% of MWCNT (AH2) and 1.5 wt% of MWCNT and 0.5 wt% of AlN nanoparticles (MH2) recorded an increment in tensile strength of about 29.2% and 34.8%, compared with pure matrix ABS. On investigation, AH2 showcased a maximum hardness of 82, bringing about a 5.12% increment with regard to ABS. The interfacial adhesion improved Storage Moduli and Loss Moduli for AH2 which helped the mechanical damping factor to manifest a marked increase in glass transition temperature (Tg). The specific wear rate was observed to be least for AH2 for various loads which showcased an embellishing improvement in wear resistance to almost 85% which can be credited to the load transfer mechanism of AlN nanofillers in the hybrid nanocomposite. The wear, thermal, and mechanical properties indicated that AH2 hybrid nanocomposite can be utilised for several engineering applications.
