Abstract : Solid waste management is one of the main environmental problems faced by developing nations like India. To effectively cater to this need, this paper proposes a structured waste management system which was effectively implemented in a community in the Alappad panchayat in Kollam district of Kerala. The system was evaluated based on continuous monitoring at each stage of its implementation. The system contains waste stations with coloured waste bins with specific labels, which made the process of sorting easy for the users. The paper also measures the effectiveness in using this approach and its impact in time saving and increase in participation from the community.
