Abstract : Biofuels are energy sources made from organic matter, which makes them renewable and eco-friendly. They are classified based on their feedstocks and produced from microalgae species come under third-generation. Research on biofuel from algae was ignited because of its ease of cultivation and harvesting. But the problem with algae-based biofuel is in the selection of strains. There are millions of algae strains in this world but only a few of them are currently studied by researchers. In this review paper, the need for biofuel, generations in biofuel, few suitable microalgae strains for biofuel, and their fatty acid contents are discussed.
