Abstract : The study of aircraft communication is both interesting and challenging as not many papers have been published in this area. Communication is the most important thing that an aircraft needs while in flight as well as on the ground or else it would be like a flightless bird. Lack of proper communication is considered as the major factor resulting in aircraft crashes, thus it is important to research into this area to ensure the safety of passengers and pilots on board. This paper surveys the existing communication technologies that serve the aircraft and the future adaptations that may be required in the field of communication for handling large amount of data coming to and from the aircraft. In addition, an alternate low cost technology using Long Range Wi-Fi is proposed to meet the demand for traffic handling.
