Abstract : Mobile internet protocol (MIP) is a client based mobility management protocol, and it is used to provide continuous internet service for the user. The mobile user forwards the control and data packets to the home agent whereas, in network-based localized mobility management known as proxy MIP version 6 (MIPv6), the network itself manages the functionality of the mobile user. In proxy MIPv6, the continuous services between the mobile users and the correspondent entities are provided with the help of mobile access gateway via localized mobility anchor. Though, latency and packet loss has been minimized in proxy MIPv6; it still faces the issue of handoff latency, single point of failure, and non-optimized routing. It can suffer from many security threats due to the inadequacy of the protection of proxy update and acknowledgement messages. Also, it impacts on the challenges such as high scalability, congestion and the cost of the network. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a secure and efficient scheme for proxy MIPv6 while updating the location of the mobile users to the participating principals. Hence, the present paper proposes a new secured scheme for the location update of the mobile host. The security properties of the proposed scheme are validated using the model checker - AVISPA. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme surpasses the existing approaches regarding enhanced security, significant reduction in communication payload.
