Abstract : Industrial, residential and aerospace environments widely use switching mode power supplies. Switching modepower supplies need to be of small size as well as highly efficient. Hence a high switching frequency is necessary for reducing the size of the converter. But as the switching frequency increases, switching loss will also increase. This will result in gradual decrease in the efficiency of the power supplied. This paper is an attempt to study the application of fuzzy based control for DC-DC converters operating at finite switching frequency. Conventional PI method currently used for buck boost converters is compared with the fuzzy based control. Simulation results are also presented. The simulations show that the fuzzy control method has better dynamic performance.
