Abstract : This paper highlights the comparative analysis of carrier wave based modulation techniques on a single phase extendable reduced switch topology. The topology is implemented using level shift PWM (pulse width modulation) and a detailed analysis of voltage and current total harmonic distortion (THD) for each pulse width modulation (PWM) control strategy is carried out. The extendable topology uses 4 dc sources and 10 switching devices which helps to minimize the complexity of the circuit and overall cost. The performance of the switching strategies for 31-level is carried out in Matlab/Simulink.
