Abstract : Presently, animation and augmented reality has taken a leap into the boundary of various industries such as gaming, entertainment and architecture. To make the works more amiable, three-dimensional models are constructed normally by hands and by technological invasions, and scanners are being employed. 3D models have become more eminent for they are flexible and accurate. But mod- elling a 3D object manually can be arduous and engaging scanners are lavish. Thus, in this paper, we propose an approach of using Kinect’s depth sensor. Kinect is an add-on for the Xbox 360 (gaming console). The depth image is obtained using the depth sensor where segmentation of a part to be 3D modelled is the exclusivity. © Springer India 2016.
