Further Development of a Software Library to Convert Orthographic Views to a 3D Model for AutoPilot3D

Orthographic views of components are generally used in fabrication and sheet metal industries. These are easy to plan bending, punching and forming operations as the operators of these machines would understand their respective tasks by looking at the drawings. However, without a 3D model of the product, it becomes difficult to get an estimate of the costing of the component that is required at a project. Therefore, there is a need for a software that can covert 2D orthographic views into a 3D model.

The demand for a solution to convert 2D orthographic views into an equivalent 3D model has motivated alfaTKG to develop AutoPilot3D, a module in alfaCAD software application, which in turn is an addin/plugin in SpaceClaim. AutoPilot3D is interfaced with ARCAD.DLL (a software library developed by ARCAD LLC, USA) to perform the conversion process. This library has been developed using Visual C# and the main developer of it, Dr. Aik-Siong Koh, has entrusted its further development to Dr. Rajeevlochana G. Chittawadigi (Project Investigator). Through this project funded by alfaTKG Integrated Solutions India Pvt. Ltd, the Project Investigator and his team at Amrita shall be working on refining the ARCAD.dll library to improve its functionality.
