Developing Wearable Devices to Monitor Breath Rate and Blood Pressure

Continuous monitoring of physiological parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, blood-oxygen saturation and many other parameters have turned out to be a common feature of critically ill patients. Most of the health problems, contagious and non-contagious diseases, early death, and low life expectancy that we see in rural areas are due to the lack of effective and affordable patient monitoring systems for prevention and treatment. In this scenario, it is necessary to develop an inexpensive patient monitoring system that is capable of monitoring multiple vital physiological parameters like BP, SpO2 and blood glucose. For this project the student worked specifically on integrating the breath and blood rate monitoring in the device.
