The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in Medical and Health Sciences program, under the Faculty of Medical Sciences, is led by the Department of Health Sciences Research at AIMS, Kochi Campus. This program, overseen by the Chairman of Post Graduate Program and Research, is also available at the Faridabad campus, providing a comprehensive platform for advanced research and expertise.
The program includes course work and research. The credit requirement for the course work is based on the Academic background and years of regular academic activity. As per the University norms, one credit is considered as 15 hours of class. There are compulsory courses for all Ph. D. scholars and these courses shall be offered by the Dept of Health Sciences Research at AIMS in campus. Rest of the credit/ Course requirement are developed and decided by the Doctoral Committee taking into consideration the academic background and research topic of the Scholar.
The thrust areas include all disciplines of Medical, Dental and Health Sciences.

Doctoral Program Call Letter July 2024 Admission (Mid Admission)
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, AIMS, Faridabad Campus, invites applications for Full-Time and Part-Time PhD Admission in Medical And Health Sciences for the academic year 2024 (Mid-admission).
The last date of submission of the duly filled Application Form is July 11, 2024. The application should be submitted by email to the Coordinator, PG studies, AIMS Faridabad at surinderpal.singh@fbd.amrita.edu
Applicants are requested to download the attached form, fill it, paste a recent passport photograph and scan the form along with required enclosures. Please mail the scanned document (scan as one PDF document) to the above email ID with “Doctoral Program 2024” as the mail subject heading. Please bring the hard copy of the form and all supporting documents when appearing for the admission exam.
The admission exam shall be conducted as per following schedule
Exam Date: July 18, 2024
Theory Paper: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Interview: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The theory paper shall consist of 10 short answer questions on the basics of research methodology and biostatistics. The candidate must answer 7 of the 10 questions. Each answer shall have a maximum score of 5 marks. The interview shall be of 15 marks where the candidates aptitude for research and subject expertise shall be explored.
Please note that candidates have to identify a Thesis Advisor (guide) at AIMS, Faridabad, get a letter of willingness from her/him and submit it along with the application form on/before 11 July 24. The details of available thesis advisors of seven departments. You may contact them directly.

Applicants holding Master’s degree are eligible for admission viz., M.Sc., MSW, MD, MS, DNB, MDS, M.Pharm, Pharm.D, 2 yr PG Diploma, MS by research and M.Phil. MBBS and BDS students having ICMR Fellowship for Ph.D programme are also considered. All applicants are expected to have strong academic records.
The regular tuition fee is Rs 30000/year. Other fee as applicable has to be paid during the course of the program. Concessions are provided to Amrita staff based on salary limit.

Admissions to Ph.D. programs are conducted twice a year, for January and July sessions. A Ph.D. program is offered in two modes- Full time and Part time and not in a distance learning mode. Hence, coursework, participation in various interactions, submission of progress reports through presentations etc. on regular basis is mandatory during the program. A Full-time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate devoting full time for completing the requirements of the program and a part- time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate who is devoting a part of his time towards the pursuit of the program while discharging his official / employment obligations. Hence, Part time Candidates are expected to ensure they get adequate organisational help and a relevant setup at their workplace that also enables them to engage in research work. Ph.D. full time is for a minimum of 3 years and Ph.D. part time for a minimum of 5 years. Maximum duration in the case of full time is 6 years and part time is 8 years. AVV encourages interdisciplinary research and exchange of ideas and knowledge in various related fields. As a residency requirement the scholar has to spend minimum of 6 months at AIMS within the PhD Program.
Doctoral Committee, Thesis Advisor (Guide) and Co-Advisor( Co-guide)
The main Guide/Thesis Advisor for the scholar during the Ph.D. program will be from AVV, appointed as per the research topic, rules regulation and Guide availability. Consequently, it allows appointment of Co-Guide/Co-Advisors from outside AVV as per university rules. It is the responsibility of the scholar to get in touch with the Faculty members of AVV and attach his/her willingness letter to undertake the responsibility of guiding the scholar in the research topic, a requisite for accepting the application. This letter has to be enclosed during submission of the duly filled in application form and subsequent acceptance. The Guide in waiting will be made aware of the PhD call made during January and July through All USERS MAIL. The Doctoral Committee of the scholar shall have a minimum of 4 and maximum 6 Faculty members including the Guide and Co-Guide. One of the members should be an international expert from outside the country, who is a renowned Faculty in the topic of research.
