We especially focus on inter – disciplinary research. Department of Mass Communication invites applications for the program.

About

The research programme in the department offers a rich-interdisciplinary perspective where the scholars get to work with research supervisors with diverse research interests spread across communication and media studies.

Rigor and quality set us apart. The progress of the PhD scholars is frequently and closely monitored by a Doctoral committee consisting of members from various academic institutions, from India and abroad. This provides the scholars with a national and international approach to pin their research in the map of the contemporary research trends. Quality research publications in reputed international journals are a mandatory and essential requirement for the completion of the PhD programme.

Scholars also get to access an ever-expanding repository of e-resources. Originality in research is strictly monitored through anti-plagiarism software. Scholars are meticulously trained in software assisted qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. Few of our alumni have gone on to join reputed Indian and foreign universities as post-doc fellows and faculties.

The applicant should possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized University/ Institution.

Applicants should show evidence of strong academic record. Excellent test scores on standardized graduate aptitude tests such as GATE or GRE, and publications in recognized conferences and journals are examples of such evidence.

Achievements

Dr. A. Balasubramanian has completed a funded project entitled ‘Documentation of the lifestyle of the Irula tribe in Gudular, Nilgiri District, Tamil Nadu with an emphasis on socio-economic development of the community’ funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST) under ‘Natural Resources Data Management System’ (NRDMS) with a rant of Rs. 15.95 lakhs. This project is a pursuit to visual document of the Irula tribes’ problems, the resources identification and steps to be taken to develop cultural, economic, and social well-being of the community through proper education. He is also an Associate Editor in International Journal of Instruction, Technology and Social Sciences and served as a Reviewer for Journals, Conferences and Swayam course on Photojournalism.

Dr. Kalyani Suresh was chosen as the Best Professor Teaching Advertising Management by ABP News for the National B-School Awards 2013, and is the recipient of the Indira Parikh 50 Women in Education Leaders award, 2019.

Faculty members from the Department of Mass Communication have published research articles in Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals.

Department of Mass Communication have produced two PhD candidates and more than 12 scholars are pursuing their PhD. PhD Scholar Ms. Neethu Parvathy’s paper “Rituals that Bond and Rituals that Divide: Evidence from a Tribal Society in India‟ has been accepted for publication in the American Sociological Association Conference 2020 . She was awarded an ICSSR fellowship with a grant of Rs 70,000/-
