Eligibility for admission: The candidates with MD or DNB qualified in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics are eligible for this fellowship. 2 candidates will be selected per year  ( Once annually) for fellowship in Infectious diseases.

Duration: 2 years

Pattern: Annual

  • Vaccinology
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Antimicrobials, Antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship
  • Organism based approach -> Bacteria, Viruses, Parasites, Fungi
  • Infection in special hosts (pregnancy, immunocompromised)
  • Community vs Nosocomial infections
  • Systemic approach to infectious diseases syndromes
  • Systemic approach to symptoms -> infective vs non-infective etiology.
  • Public health and epidemiology
  • Travel Medicine

Clinical Training 

  • Inpatient Care: Rotations in hospitals where fellows manage patients with a variety of infectious diseases often in consultation with other specialties. i.e., Community or nosocomial infections, Sepsis, Infections in immunocompromised hosts, transplant infections, and/ or Oncology infections.
  • Outpatient Clinics: Training in diagnosis and management of acute or chronic infections, such as Tropical fevers, Community acquired infections, HIV/AIDS, TB, Sexually transmitted infections, Travel related infections, and other infectious diseases, prevention of infections i.e., transmission based precautions, vaccines and chemoprophylaxis in Travellers, immunocompromised host.
  • Consultation: Working as part of a team providing consultations to other departments on complex cases;
  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Infection control

Didactic Education 

  • Lectures and Seminars: Regular sessions on topics like microbiology, epidemiology, immunology, diagnostics, and emerging infections.
  • Journal Clubs: Reviewing and discussing recent research articles to stay updated with current literature and clinical practices.
  • Case Conferences: Presenting and discussing complex cases to develop diagnostic and management skills.

Research Training 

  • Research Projects: engagement in research projects related to infectious diseases, which may involve clinical trials, laboratory research, or epidemiological studies.
  • Research Methodology: Training in research design, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Grant Writing: Opportunities to learn about grant writing and securing funding for research.

Professional Development

  • Teaching and Mentorship: Opportunities to teach medical students and residents, as well as to mentor junior colleagues.
  • Leadership Skills: Development of leadership skills through involvement in hospital committees or quality improvement projects.
