Aṣṭādhyāyī, the rule book on Sanskrit grammar, is “an algorithm, a machine that consumes phonemes and morphemes, and produces words and sentences.” Traditionally, it is taught in one of two methods: through the Kāśikāvṛtti or the Siddhānta-Kaumudī. Both methods need to be synthesized to comprehend the Aṣṭādhyāyī of Pāṇini.
Dr. Rajeshwar Bhandaru has comprehended a system of teaching the Aṣṭādhyāyī of Pāṇini using the Aṣṭādhyāyī-krama. This is one of the streams of the Pāṇinian tradition and a way of working with the text; to study the 4000 odd sutras of the text in the fastest and the easiest way. This method will allow students to appreciate how the text packs a maximal semantic payload into the smallest possible syntactic space, a minimal syllabary.
This course’s intrinsic nature is to learn the Pāṇinian system of grammar using the Aṣṭādhyāyī-krama with our common sense and trial and error methods etc. A participant enrolled in the course will get the methodological way of learning the Aṣṭādhyāyī based on Pāṇini’s derivational model. The course is designed in such a way that a student will get a methodological command on the topics explained in the course.
