A two-day hands-on training workshop on Embedded Software Development on Beagle Bone Platform was organized at the Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru during September 14-15, 2012.
The workshop was organized in collaboration with IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and Texas Instruments.
Amrita is an active member of the India University Program of Texas Instruments that helps foster research and learning among educators and engineering students in Indian Universities.
The workshop saw the participation of around 25 delegates representing different institutions in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In addition, students and faculty from all three Amrita Schools of Engineering at Amritapuri, Bengaluru and Coimbatore attended.
A popular software development platform, Beagle Bone can run on operating systems such as Linux and Android. This platform can enable Computer Science students to gain knowledge of Embedded Linux and Android applications.
Over the course of the two days, participants had the opportunity to not only attend lectures from industry experts but also practice software development in hands-on lab sessions using the new platform.
Vaibhav Hiremath, Satish Patel and Baskaran Chidambaram from Texas Instruments taught Sitara Linux Software Development on Beagle Bone Platform, Android Application Development and Starter Ware AM 335x, a free software development package, respectively.
The instructors also provided insights into recent product developments and operations at their organization and the semiconductor industry as a whole.
“It was a well-planned event. Our instructors from Texas Instruments were very knowledgeable and informative. The hands-on lab sessions were excellent. Overall, the event was very useful and relevant for people such as myself whose interest lies in Embedded Systems and Programming,” stated Ms. Vineetha S., Assistant Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri.
“The Workshop had excellent theory and hands-on training sessions for Starter Ware, Linux and Android Porting and configuration on Beagle Bone Platform. The introductory sessions were also very good. The basic concepts were explained very clearly,” shared Mr. Sivaraj P. and Mr. Vijith K., Assistant Professors, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore.
Participants from other colleges such as Sapthagiri College of Engineering, NMAM Institute of Technology and Canara Engineering College also provided excellent feedback.
“The workshop was very informative and the hands-on training sessions were very interactive. They helped me a great deal in learning the concepts of Beagle Bone,” stated Ms. Shobha B. N., Lecturer, Sapthagiri College of Engineering.
