Team bi0s, the academic ethical hacking team of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, has been ranked the number one team in India in Cyber Security based “Capture The Flag Competitions” in 2017, according to CTFtime. The team won this honor for the second consecutive year competing with around 500 teams in India. Team bi0s also secured the 72^nd position internationally among 14,500 teams worldwide. The result was announced at the end of 2017, based on a series of competitions that took place throughout the year.

In 2017, bi0s also conducted the first international edition of InCTF, which got a rating of 25 CTFtime points – the highest for CTFs being conducted for the first time. Notable achievements in 2017 included securing the 8^th rank globally in SEC-T CTF, 25^th rank globally in CSAW quals CTF and 44^th rank worldwide in ASIS CTF Finals 2017.

Team bi0s conducted a workshop on Cyber Security at Model Engineering College, Thrikakkara and a workshop on Web Security at Sree Narayana Gurukulam College of Engineering, Ernakulam. The team members also presented at the CysInfo Community Meetup. Heeraj Nair, 4^th year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, spoke on “XXE – XML External Entity Attack” and Aswin Guptha, 3^rd year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, spoke on “Introduction to Binary Exploitation” in February 2017, in Bengaluru, and in July 2017, in Bengaluru. Ashutosh Ahelleya, 2^nd year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Siddharth Muralee, 2^nd year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Shivkrishna A, 4^th year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, talked on “Bit Flipping Attack on AES – CBC”, “Dynamic Binary Analysis using Angr”, and “S2E (Selective Symbolic Execution)”. The Team also conducted InCTFj – Or InCTF Junior edition which is a cybersecurity contest for all school students in India.

Team members were selected for various honours. Siddharth Muralee was selected to attend the BlackHat conference to be held in London on first week of March 2018 and Ashutosh Ahelleya was selected to attend the Elliptic Curve Cryptography Summer School in Netherlands on the first week of April, 2018. Heeraj Nair was selected for the OWASP Winter Code Sprint and Jayakrishna Menon, 4^th year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, were selected for two 6 month internships at University of Southern California and Arizona State University. Gokul Krishna P, 4^th year, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was selected for a 12 month internship at Arizona State University.
