In an intercollegiate rapid style chess tournament held at Kollam on December 9th, 2018, the Amrita chess team, comprising of four players, grabbed second prize which included Rs. 3000 cash prize, trophies and certificates.
Subramanian Olappamamna and Vasanth Kumar of S7 Mechanical Engineering, M. S. Sasankan of Computer Science Engineering and Hrishikesh R. of Electronics and Communication Engineering emerged the second position holders in “K. Thankappan Memorial Inter-Collegiate Team Chess Championship”. Sasankan who captained the team towards the win expressed his joy and said the team would do much more in the year to come.
“This win is surely a reward for the effort our kids have put into chess. Daily practices have improved their calculative skills on the board to higher degrees,” says Rupesh Kalesan, the chess coach of the Amritapuri campus team.
