The Amrita School of Ayurveda brought home the runners-up championship recently, when they participated in the All Kerala Inter Ayurveda College Table Tennis and Carroms Tournaments.
14 of the 17 Ayurvedic colleges in Kerala took part in the event which was conducted at the Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Thulasi and Jitha, studying in the third-year of Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program, won the women’s doubles title in Table Tennis. Shabana and Aswathi, their class-mates, won the women’s doubles title in Carroms.
In addition, Thulasi won the women’s singles title in Tables Tennis and Shabana, the women’s singles title in Carroms.
This is not the first time that these students have made Amrita proud. Last year also, Thulasi had won the women’s singles title in Table Tennis at the same tournament.
In addition to the singles title, students from the Amrita School of Ayurveda had also won the women’s doubles title in the All Kerala Inter Ayurveda College Table Tennis Tournament.
Both last year and the year prior to that (2008-09 and 2007-08), the Amrita School of Ayurveda had also won the Overall Championship in the All Kerala Inter Ayurveda College Badminton (Shuttle) Tournament conducted by Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, Ollur, Thrissur.
What encourages these students to participate in the tournaments, despite their busy study schedule?
“Love for the game,” they shared.
“For me, I started playing with my siblings, at first,” stated Thulasi. “Later I was inspired to participate in state-level sports events.”
“I started playing only after I joined plus two,” shared Shabana.
At Amrita, students are encouraged to take part in various sports events. “Most students are very enthusiastic about participating in the various inter-Amrita and inter-college tournaments that are organized and somehow manage to find time to practice, even when they are busy with their classes,” stated Mr. Krishnakumar S., HoD, Department of Physical Education.
“Facilties provided on campus make their practice sessions more enjoyable and help students achieve what they want,” shared Divya, Physical Instructor at the campus.
We congratulate the sports players on their achievements.
