Belarus, a small country in Europe, part of the erstwhile Soviet Union, will be the venue for the 1st Euro-Asian Head and Neck Cancer Congress in July 2009. Dr Subramania Iyer, MS, MCh, FRCS from the Amrita School of Medicine has been invited as scientific co-chairman of the congress.
Dr. Iyer is HoD, Dept of Reconstructive Surgery at Amrita. In November 2008, he was felicitated at the National Conference in Varanasi of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India for his path-breaking work in reconstruction of orbit maxillary tissue using TFL ostemyocutaneous flap. The previous year also Dr. Iyer’s novel methods of reconstructive surgery were noted and honored at the same forum.
Under his leadership, the Dept has won growing recognition nationally and internationally. At Varanasi, the Dept received the most coveted Peet Prize, for the third consecutive year. Dr. Iyer is a Craniofacial Fellow in Mexico and a UICC Fellow at the Centre Oscar Lambrette in Lille, France. He has trained in Plastic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery in UK.
