“Technology product markets today are characterized by frequent introductions and withdrawals of multiple models by different companies,” remarked Dr. Ramya Neelamegham, IIM-Bangalore.
Dr. Ramya was at the Coimbatore campus making a presentation to ASB faculty members and research scholars from her recently published paper titled Modeling and Forecasting the Sales of Technology Products.
Hers was the first presentation in the day-long workshop on Management Research: Contemporary Issues and Thoughts .
Dr. Ramya Neelamegham obtained her PhD from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA. She co-authored the presented paper with a colleague at the University of Chicago, USA.
Explaining how to forecast the demand for technology products in today’s fast-changing and unpredictable markets, Dr. Ramya introduced a hierarchical Bayesian model with a time varying parameter framework. She outlined her research wherein thirty-three months of national level data on the digital camera market was used.
Dr. Ramya’s presentation was followed by those from equally eminent researchers representing premier national and international universities. Sharing research ideas and experiences, they highlighted the importance of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Narayan S. Umanath, Professor Emeritus, Information Systems at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA spoke on Game Theory, illustrating its application through a complex issue solved by a very simple step-by-step process.
Others who also elaborated on their research work included Dr. Vishnuprasad Nagadevara from IIM Bangalore and Dr. R.K. Hebsur, Former Deputy Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
The workshop concluded with the following research paper presentations.
Dr. Vishnuprasad Nagadevara, IIM-Bangalore – Cluster Modeling for Market Segmentation
Prof. J. Ravichandran, Amrita Department of Mathematics – Ingenious Non-Parametric Mechanism for Modeling Best Bid Prices for Tenders
Mr. K. G. Satheesh Kumar, Dean (PGP) and Chairperson (Systems), Asian School of Business, Trivandrum, also Research Scholar at Amrita School of Business – Transaction Costs Perspective on Innovation
“The workshop provided me with a new perspective about research and theory development,” stated one participant.
“All presentations and discussions were of a very high quality,” stated another. “It was a rare confluence of a group of highly accomplished academicians who not only published in the best international journals but were also ready to share their knowledge with us.”
