Real-time Wireless Sensor Network for Landslide Detection – This research paper will be presented by its author, Ms. Maneesha V. Ramesh, at the Third International Conference on Sensor Technologies and Applications, SENSORCOMM 2009. The conference will be at Athens/Vouliagmeni, Greece during June 18-23. The paper will also be published in the IEEE digital library.
Amrita’s research on next generation wireless networks has been showcased 
before in international forums. Indeed, it is partially funded by the European Commission. Amrita is a partner in the WINSOC* consortium that is investigating the use of wireless sensor technology with self-organizing capabilities for critical and emergency applications such as natural disasters, forest fires and landslides. Funding was also received from the Department of Information Technology (DIT), India.
“This paper discusses the design, development and implementation of a wireless sensor network for landslide detection,” stated Ms. Maneesha Ramesh. Ms. Ramesh is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at the Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus, also currently pursuing her PhD from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. “We have deployed a test bed in the Idukki district of the southern state of Kerala, India, a region known for its heavy rainfall, steep slopes, and frequent landslides,” she added.
