Geethu S. Gireesh
The second Rekha Eipe Memorial Scholarship Award for Women’s Empowerment and Education was awarded to recipient Geethu S. Gireesh, Master of Social Work student. The event took place at Shraddha Hall on December 30, 2022 in the presence of several dignitaries and guests. Department of Social Work members & guests and students also attended the event.
Dr. Meltem (Nandita), Vice Chair, Department of Social Work shared welcome remarks, via video conference, and introduced the special invited guest: Shri Prabhakaran Ramachandran,Chairman and Founding Partner, Pravda Law Associates for Litigation inIndia and Lincoln Global Law Chambers (LGLC); who also attended via video conference.
The event began with an invocation prayer and ceremonial lamp lighting by Dr. Bhavani Rao, Dean of Social and Behavioural Sciences,Dr. S.N. Jyothy, Associate Dean, School of Engineering, AmritapuriCampus and other faculty.
Ms. Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe, joined via video conference and shared some touching words about the Rekha Eipe Memorial Fund and expressed her appreciation to our Chancellor, Amma.
Dr. Bhavani Rao expressed her sincere appreciation to the Eipe family for their support of this worthy cause. She emphasized the significance of providing education to those in need, and how developing skills and abilities is crucial for achieving long-term self-sufficiency.
Invited guest speaker Advocate Prabhakaran Ramachandran delivered powerful remarks about the significance of unity in society and the role of students in helping those in need. He emphasized the value of education that promotes important qualities such as love and compassion.
Ms. Geethu S. Gireesh was deeply touched and humbled to have been chosen as the recipient of the Rekha Eipe Memorial Scholarship, and eagerly looks forward to delving into the Master of Social Work program and making the most of this opportunity. The previous recipient, Ms. Nasliya N., also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Amma, the Eipe family, and the faculty of the Social Work Department for their support.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Srividya Sheshadri, Associate Director of the Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality, and a prayer for peace throughout the world. The Rekha Eipe Memorial Scholarship is a fund established to provide financial assistance to female students who are talented in the Master of Social Work program at Amrita. A big congratulations to Geethu for rising to the occasion and making Amrita proud.
