Two faculty members of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham recently received prestigious appointments to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
As the world’s largest association working to promote the use of technology for betterment of humanity, IEEE includes a global community of professionals that help advance scientific knowledge through their highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards and educational activities.
The IEEE nominated Amrita’s Raghu Raman to be the Chair of the India-wide IEEE Education Society. The Society played a key role in the first-ever IEEE sponsored International Conference on Technology Enhanced Education that was hosted by Amritapuri campus earlier this year.
“Raghu’s involvement and dedication has resulted in significant growth, program improvement and membership development for the IEEE Education Society. Such dedication is herewith commended,” stated Dr. Rob Reilly, President, IEEE Education Society.
At Amrita, Raghu leads the Amrita Center for Research in Analytics & Technologies for Education (AmritaCREATE). Inspired by Chancellor Amma’s vision of education for all, by integrating research and practice, AmritaCREATE at Amrita works to develop accessible and affordable educational technologies.
Recently, Raghu was also nominated to become a Senior Member of the IEEE by its Officers and Board of Directors. With this, Raghu joins the select few of less than 8% of IEEE members who are Senior Members.
IEEE also honored another Amrita faculty member, Mr. Prashant R.Nair, by extending a nomination to the Executive Committee of the IEEE Madras Section.
Having done a considerable amount of research work in the usage of IT for Supply Chain Management, Prashant has numerous journal and conference publications and presentations to his credit. He has authored one book also, published by IGI Global.
He has also received the CSI Academic Excellence Award for publishing the maximum number of papers in the CSI Communications Journal, the oldest Computer Science Journal in India.
“The last 12 years as an Amrita faculty member have been very rewarding and enriching. By providing a global exposure, the institution has been nurturing faculty members so as to improve their educational qualifications, teaching pedagogy and research competence. In 2009, as an Erasmus Mundus fellow, I benefited from Amrita’s exchange program with support from the European Commission. I attribute these awards and recognition to the multi-dimensional exposure and experience I gained at Amrita,” said Prashant.
