The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the Coimbatore Campus organized the fourth edition of its national conference on Recent Trends in Communication, Computation and Signal Processing (RTCSP) in April 2013.
The event was organized in association with Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Coimbatore Centre. It was co-sponsored by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
As a forum to exchange innovative developments in many interdisciplinary areas, the event attracted over 200 delegates from industry and academia, including students.
Addressing delegates during the inaugural ceremony, Dr. M. Basavaraj, Vice President, IETE acknowledged and appreciated the role of the Amrita – IETE Students Forum which took the lead in organizing this event, also the IETE Coimbatore Centre’s flagship event.
“This attempt to evaluate the state-of-the-art technologies by bringing together scientists and practitioners facing challenging issues and seeking to elevate the standards of academia by sharing lessons learned is an excellent initiative,” he stated.
A noteworthy lecture by Satish Mohan, Senior Manager-Projects, Cognizant Technologies, followed. Sharing his views on Changing Scenarios in the IT Landscape, he emphasized the importance of the new enterprise IT model SMAC (S – Social Media, M – Mobility, A – Analytics and C – Cloud).
“During the past three decades, IT has dramatically changed the lives and livelihoods of people throughout the developing world. The change is still ongoing and this motivates the younger generation to enhance their skills and knowledge sets,” he stated.
Paper presentations followed that covered research developments in communications, image processing, speech processing, soft computing, wireless systems, wireless networks, microelectronics, instrumentation and biomedical engineering.
A total of 150 research papers were received that went through an elaborate scrutiny and peer review process. About 30 papers were finally chosen for presentation; the presenters represented industry experts, research scholars from national research labs, IT companies and universities from all over India.
The conclusion saw the release of the conference proceedings ELECTRON (Volume 4 – Issue 1, ISBN: 978 – 81- 921211 – 3 – 0).
“This annual conference is beginning to emerge as a popular conference in the field of electronics in India. This year, we also flagged off the IETE Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the IETE Coimbatore Centre,” shared Mohankumar N., Conference Secretary and Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
