Dr. Damordaran. M. Vasudevan, Emeritus Professor and Head of PG Programs & Research at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was honoured recently with the launch of a postage stamp by India Post on March 2, 2019, commemorating 50 years of his dedicated service to the cause of medical education and research.
Subsequent to his retirement from government service in 1996, Prof. Vasudevan actively continued his legendary journey of teaching and research contributing his services at Kasturba Medical College at Manipal & Mangalore and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, as Founder-Principal. He is the distinguished Founder-Principal of the School of Medicine at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.

He is the author of the book titled “Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students” which is followed in several universities in India and abroad. The first edition was published in 1995, the eight edition in 2016 and the 9th edition will be in the market by the middle of 2019. The book is now well known internationally. The Spanish and Slovak editions are already in print. The textbook is widely circulated in 23 countries of the world. He has authored several hundreds of research publications. His research interest in mainly on biochemical and immunological studies in cancer, viruses, liver diseases and alcoholism.
The cumulative citations of his research publications together total up to more than 5000 and Prof. Vasudevan remains as one among the most cited authors in the file of medical sciences. He is also the Founder-Director of two cancer research laboratories, one at Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum and another at Amala Cancer Research Centre, Thrissur. He is also in the advisory committee of several national and international research organizations.
