As the season for campus placements gets underway in engineering colleges around the nation, more and more companies are visiting Amrita to recruit students.
To-date, over 99% graduating students have received job offers from companies such as Caterpillar, Cisco, Honeywell, IBM, Microsoft, National Instruments, SAP, Toyota, Accenture, Ford, Titan, Cognizant, HP, Infosys, L&T, Wipro and MindTree.
“This achievement of the Amrita students is a testimony to the academic rigor of the study programs that they go through and the professional relevance of their degrees,” stated Prof. Parameshwaran, with obvious pride.
As Director of the Center for Corporate and International Relations, Prof. Parameshwaran oversees all placement-related activities for students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
“Many students wish to have a fulfilling career in engineering, and it has been our endeavor to invite not only the top IT companies but also core engineering companies to recruit on our campuses.”
Placement activities will continue through the end of the next semester. The highest salary offered to a student this year was Rs.12.72 lakhs per annum. Even though most students have at least one job offer, several wish to check out job profiles offered by other companies, as they seek what they term their dream jobs.
But not Vignesh M., who will graduate with a B.Tech. degree in Information Technology in May 2011, and join Microsoft with an annual emoluments package totally Rs. 11. 96 lakhs.
Vignesh was one of four students selected from across the nation for his dream job. He described the process.
“When I was still studying in my second-year, I was selected as an MSP (Microsoft Student Partner). I was one of 700 MSPs selected from nearly 10,000 applicants. We all wrote a test, then participated in a group discussion and an interview.”
“As an MSP, while attending college, I conducted technical sessions and seminars. I also developed applications for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Azure.”
Vignesh took care to see that his academic grades remained high, for low performers risked termination from the MSP program.
Finally, in his final year, Vignesh, with 300 other MSPs, was invited to an interview at Microsoft’s development center in Hyderabad. The candidates represented the IITs, IISc, BITS and other premier engineering colleges of the nation. After a written test and an interview, Vignesh and only three others received full-time offers.
Of the three other students selected, two were from the IITs, and one from IISc.
