The department of Visual Communication, School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus, hosted a two-day workshop on photography and videography for the students from April 25-26, 2018.
Mr. Pavan briefed the participants on tactics and techniques of photo composition. Mr. Suraj Shankar taught the participants to script, video shoot, edit and produce a short film within a day, as part of the videography workshop.
As a part of photography aspect of the workshop, the participants learned the fundamentals of photography and different types of cameras and lenses. The participants also got hands-on experience working with DSLR cameras and were taught about various camera exposures. After the workshop, participants were encouraged to take a variety of theme-based photos which were later judged by the mentor.
The second day was the workshop on videography which gave an overview of the importance of script writing in the film industry. The participants were taught to work with video cameras along with the knowledge of the different shots and angles. They also got an industry style working experience of a newsroom which also gave them the complete idea of online editing. Participants were later made to conceptualize a concept, develop a short script on the concept and shoot for the same. Aspects relating to pre-production, production, and post-production required to make a complete short film were taught and the short film was produced the same day, which encouraged them to explore more in the area.
The camera workshop (touch, feel, click and capture) inspired the participants to produce and practice photography and videography as a passionate profession.
