Binulal Nelson Sathy, Ph.D. scholar at the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, attended the third annual Asia Nanotech Camp this year. The camp was conducted across four cities in Singapore and Malaysia.
 

The 40 participants were all young research scholars working in the field of nanotechnology in some 35 research organizations. Together they represented all member countries of the Asia Nano Forum.
 

A collaborative network organization that promotes R&D into and the economic uptake of nanotechnology within the Asian region, the Asia Nano Forum has conducted this camp for three years now.
 

Binulal was one among only three Indians chosen to participate this year.
 

“It was a wonderful experience,” he stated. “I had the opportunity to learn about the wide spectrum of research in nanotechnology that is happening internationally.”
 

“Some of the best minds engaged in the study and research of nanotechnology were there and I learned a great deal from them.”
 

The 13-day camp had technical lectures by experts and industry seminars. In addition, attendees were taken on visits to universities, research institutes and high-tech companies.
 

There were group activities and presentations designed to establishing close ties among participants.
 

Binulal’s primary area of research interest is Stem Cell Based Bone Tissue Engineering. He expects to graduate with his Ph.D from the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine sometime next year.
 

“I encourage more of our young researchers to seek out and attend camps such as these,” stated Dr. Shanti Nair, Dean (Research) of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Director of the Center.
 

“Our young scholars will gain a lot by communicating, networking and collaborating through programs such as these.”
