The students in Amrita Rural Education Centers across the country celebrated Vriksh Raksha Bandhan on August 7, 2017. They pledged to protect the environment on day of Raksha Bandhan, an annual rite celebrated by Indians by tying a thread or amulet on the wrist as a form of ritual protection.
The festival, which usually honors the brother-sister bond, was celebrated with each child tying a ‘Rakhee’ around a tree, giving it a name, doing worship and pledging to take care of it like a sister or brother. The teachers and students in 21 centers in Amrita RITE Education Center around the country organized and participated in the event.
