Dr. Purushothaman Damodaran, Professor and Chair, Dept. Industrial and Systems Engineering, Northern Illinois University (NIU), and Dr. Shanti Muthuswamy, Associate Professor, Department of Technology, Northern Illinois University (NIU), visited Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campuses at Kochi, Amritapuri and Coimbatore on 17th, 18th and 19th July, 2017.
At the Kochi campus, they went on a hospital tour at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, visited the departments, labs and centers, including the Nano Molecular Labs and Nano Solar Labs. They also met Dr. Shantikumar Nair, Dean of Research and Director, Amrita Center for Nanosciences, Kochi.
On visiting Amritapuri Campus, the guests met Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean, School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus. On 18th July, they attended conference on Live-in-Labs® and also gave a talk on “Optimization and Scheduling” which was attended by the faculty members and students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. They also gave a talk on “4+1 plan for Industrial Engineering and NIU Programs for our Undergraduate Students”. Later, the Professors visited various Research Labs, Amrita Multi Modal Applications Using Computer & Human Interaction (AMMACHI Labs), Landslide, HUT, Robotics Labs, and attended a meeting on Collaborations and MOU’s with Dr. Maneesha V. Ramesh, Director, Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA).
On 19th July, Dr. Purushothaman and Dr. Shanti Muthuswamy reached Coimbatore Campus. They conducted a presentation on NIU and later interacted with the students of UG and PG, and the PhD scholars and faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
