Today medical treatment is becoming increasingly dependent on decisions arrived at through a variety of carefully planned and interpreted investigations. Biostatistics is the basic tool for arriving at these decisions.
The training of a medical practitioner and a researcher today encompasses training in biostatistical techniques.
To this end, Dr. K. R. Sundaram, Head, Department of Biostatistics at Amrita collaborated with his colleagues at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Dr. S. N. Dwivedi and Dr. V. Sreenivas from the Department of Biostatistics to write the new book.
“The book is intended to serve as a textbook of biostatistics for graduate and postgraduate medical and dental students,” stated Dr. Sundaram. “It can also be used by students of biostatistics and medical statistics courses as well as pharmaceutical, nursing, nano-medical sciences and doctoral degree courses.”
The book provides a comprehensive treatment of the subject and will be especially useful to those engaged in clinical and epidemiological research.
The book published by BI publishers, New Delhi, has 15 chapters that address all important aspects of statistical design and data analyses of research studies related to medicine and public health.
Also present at the book release function were Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences; Mr. Ron Gottsegen, Administrative Director; Dr. Shanti Nair, Dean of Research and Head of the Centre for Nano Sciences and Dr. Prathapan Nair, Principal of the Amrita School of Medicine.
