National Safe Motherhood Day was observed at Amrita College of Nursing, Kochi, on April 10, 2019. JANANI, a collaborative endeavour of Amrita College of Nursing and Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was inaugurated as a part of it. It is an awareness program specially designed for pregnant mothers. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Radhamany K., Professor and HOD, Dept.of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, and presided by Prof. K. T. Moly, Principal, Amrita College of Nursing.
The program title and a short video of JANANI was launched by Bri. Sai Bala, Chief Nursing Officer, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. A role play done by fourth year B. Sc. Nursing students was enjoyed by all. The first session was conducted by Mrs. Anju Philip T., Asst. Professor, Obstetrics and Gynaecologic Nursing, Amrita College of Nursing, Kochi, on “Minor Ailments of Pregnancy”.
The main purpose of the initiative is to inculcate knowledge about care during the perinatal period, so that the woman can lead life with a positive attitude towards pregnancy, labour and puerperium and gain proficiency in managing day to day life activities. The session facilitators will be the faculty members in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecologic Nursing, Amrita College of Nursing. The duration of each session will be 30 minutes and is planned to be conducted monthly on various topics.
