Recent Trends in Communication and Signal ProcessingThe Dept of Electronics and Communication Engg (ECE) at Coimbatore recently organized a national-level conference on Recent Trends in Communication and Signal Processing. The conference was organized in association with the IETE Coimbatore Center and the Computer Society of India.

Nearly 350 participants from 15 engineering colleges around the country participated. About 70 papers were presented on topics such as Wavelets, VLSI, Microelectronics, Wireless Communication, Signal Processing and Communication Systems. About 15 papers addressed interdisciplinary topics such as Soft Computing, Financial Engineering and Computational Techniques.

“The conference provided a good opportunity to learn more about the latest developments in the field,” stated Ramesh Bhakthavatchalu, Assistant Professor of ECE at Amritapuri, who co-authored two of the papers presented. Titled, Design of Programmable Logic-BIST Structures, the first was co-authored also by Archana K R, Aswathy Viswambharan, Deepthi K and Brinda B S, all final-year B Tech students. Arbind B. S., Vineeth Menon, Vishnu Mohan, Menon C., also B Tech students, co-authored the second paper. “It is a matter of pride for us that at Amrita, B Tech students also get an opportunity to work on quality research projects,” he added.

Invited Talk at ConferenceK. K. Venkataraman, Vice President of Pricol Ltd. was an invited speaker. Pricol Ltd. is a market leader in automobile electronics that automate various functions of an engine and control systems.

“Due to advancements in VLSI , Communication Systems, Signal Processing, new products are appearing that have wide applications in the automobile industry,” stated Dr. M. Jayakumar, the conference coordinator. “The invited talk dealt with challenges in the design and development of compact electronics systems for automobiles. It was an opportunity for the delegates to learn about some very practical industry applications.”

Faculty members from the Amrita Schools of Engineering at Amritapuri and Coimbatore participated in great numbers. They presented a large number of papers (see complete list); a partial list is provided below.
