The Amrita School of Arts and Sciences organized a two-day national conference on Security Monitoring during February 15-16, 2013 in collaboration with the Computer Society of India.
A. Unnikrishnan, Associate Director of Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, NPOL-DRDO, Kochi inaugurated the conference. Sampoojya Swami Poornamritananda Puri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanandamayi Math was present, to bless the inaugural ceremony.
“With increased reliance on the internet by individuals, businesses of all sizes and governments, it is imperative that we use tools and techniques to prevent, detect and correct cyber threats in near real-time,” stated conference organizers.
“The entire national and global economy now depends on the secure operation of interconnected infrastructure in banking and finance, education, healthcare and power distribution,” they outlined.
“As we start to utilize cloud computing, social media and the mobile internet, the attack surface is increasing, breeding new grounds for cyber attacks,” they further added.
S. Mukhopadhyay, General Manager, State Bank of India; Dr. V. Radha, Assistant Professor, Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad; Dr. M. Sethumadhavan, Professor, Amrita Center for Cyber Security and Dr. Jayaraj Poroor, Chief Technology Officer, Amrita Research Labs were among the keynote speakers at the conference.
Technical talks covered topics such as concepts in cryptography, managing a large business network, security aspects with respect to the banking industry, enterprise security monitoring, emerging technologies for mobile security monitoring and malware.
There were focused workshops on web applications, internet security and secure application development. These were led by industry professionals from organizations such as eBay India Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore; i-Human India Pvt. Ltd, Chennai and CSC Independent Testing Services.
Other speakers represented the government and academic bodies.
Overall nearly 250 delegates participated, including research scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
“The general feedback from participants was very good. Most felt that the demos and workshops conducted were fairly interactive and instructive,” shared the conference conveners.
“Helping convene the conference provided us an opportunity to share our experiences and knowledge with experts from various domains. It was a fruitful knowledge sharing process. All-in-all, it was a remarkable experience,” they concluded.
