The department of Visual Communication and the Media & Fine Arts Club of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, recently organized “Lens and Frames: A Photography and Videography” workshop for UG and PU students of city colleges, from April 9-10, 2019.
The workshop dealt with both the theoretical and practical aspects of photography and videography. Mr. Pavan K. J., a reputed freelance photographer, handled a session on basics inputs for professional photography and gave a hands-on session on various genres in photography. The student participants from various city colleges rushed back after a briefing, for a review on their amateur captures. On day two, Dr. Ramya K. Prasad, Chairperson of the department, gave an overview of the significance of the different scenes and shots used in videography. Camera angles, movements, shots and basic rules such as head-room, nose-room, rule of thirds, deep and shallow focus, etc., were detailed out. A demo on multi-camera production was conducted to explain the video production process. Mr. Akshay Sidharth, faculty of the department served as the resource person for a special session on script writing. Mentioning the do’s and the don’ts, he detailed the elements of a script and how to add an interesting plot to keep the audience gripped. The participants were encouraged to write a script and transform that script to a short film with the required technical support such as shots, angles, etc., and they thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience.
