“Proficiency in one’s own mother tongue helps in picking up other languages easily,” opined Shri Rajashekar Koti, Editor of the Kannada daily Andolana. He was addressing the gathering at the Kannada Rajyotsava celebration at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus on November 1, 2014.
Quoting the example of Sanskrit, Shri Rajashekar expressed his concern over the status of Kannada and said, “If not used for our day to day purposes, Kannada will very soon be reduced to a library language and not be a communication medium.”
The celebration commenced with lighting of the lamp by dignitaries followed by rendering of state anthem. Prof. Ramesh Bewoor, Chairperson, Department of Management and Commerce, School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus, and two students Savina M. K. (BBM Semester 1) and Nagarjun B. (B Sc– Visual Media Semester 1) shared their opinions about the status of Kannada today. The cultural events on the Kannada theme added flavor to the program. The campus looked colourful with students in their ethnic attire.
