On February 11, 2020, an invited talk was conducted at Amrita School of Pharmacy on the topic “Classification and Management of Epilepsy”. The talk was divided into 2 sessions. The first session was handled by Dr. Prof. Solomon L. Moshe, Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience and Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology, Director of the Isabelle Rapin Child Neurology Division and Director of Clinical Neurophysiology. The talk began with a welcome speech by Dr. Sabitha M., Principal, Amrita School of Pharmacy, followed by a detailed introduction on epilepsy by Prof. Solomon. The different types of seizures were depicted with real video footages and EEG. How to recognize an episode of seizure was the topic of interest. At the end of the session, there was an interactive session in which there was active participation from the listeners.
The second session was on February 12, 2020, by Dr. Sunita Dergalust, Clinical Pharmacist, Neurology & Neurosurgery, West LA VA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, Adjunct Clinical Instructor in Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California & USC School of Pharmacy, Los Angeles, California. She is also Residency Program Director PGY2 Neurology Specialty Residency Program West LA VA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. The talk was about the management of epilepsy. The session was more focused on the therapeutic management of epilepsy, new drug discoveries, drug dosing and the ADRs. The session ended with an open discussion between the speaker and the audience.
