International Yoga Day Celebration 2024

The International Yoga Day was celebrated at Amrita School of Pharmacy on June 21, 2024. This year’s theme was – Yoga for Self and Society. The event was jointly organised by the Cultural Committee and the Yoga Club. A total of hundred participants took part in this celebration which included the students of B Pharm 2023 batch, B Pharm 2021 batch, M Pharm students, PhD scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff and the yoga club members under the supervision of yoga master, Mr. Ramesh Babu. Dr. Lekshmi R. Nath, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Cultural Committee & Yoga Club delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sabitha M., Principal, Amrita School of Pharmacy highlighted the importance and the benefits of yoga for a healthy mind and body and also shared her personal experiences on practising yoga. To mark the start of the programme, the lamp was lit by Dr Sabitha M., Mr.Ramesh Babu, Cultural Committee members and Yoga Club conveners.

Yoga asanas were demonstrated on the stage by Udaay Adithiyaa V. M. and Indrani S. Kammath of PharmD 2nd year. The entire session was moderated by Adithya J. Kamath, Ph.D Scholar and under the guidance of yoga master, Mr. Ramesh Babu. The loosening exercises began right after the prayer for yoga which included neck bending, shoulder movement, trunk movement and knee movement. All the yoga asanas were performed as per the ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ provided by the Ministry of AYUSH.

The yoga asanas performed included:

Standing Asanas 

  • Tadasana
  • Padahasthasana
  • Ardha chakrasana
  • Tirikonasana

Sitting Asanas

  • Bhadrasana
  • Vajrasana
  • Ardha ushtrasana

Lying Asanas

  • Makarasana
  • Bhujangasana
  • Salabhasana
  • Sethubandhasana
  • Ardhahalasana
  • Pavana Muktasana
  • Shavasana

After yoga asanas, breathing exercises – Bhramari Pranayama and Nadisodhana pranayama and a 10 minutes meditation were performed. The closing yoga prayer was sung to complete the yoga session. Vote of thanks was delivered by Adithya J. Kamath, Ph.D Scholar, and the programme came to a successful end with serving breakfast to all the participants.
