International Journal of Advances in Computing publishes Amrita paper titled Design and Development of Mobile Operated Control System for Humanoid Robot.
The paper, authored by Dr. Ganesh Udupa, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and BTech students Abhay Sengar, Aswath S. and Chinmaya Krishna Tilak, was recently published in the International Journal of Advances in Computing.
The paper explains about a control system designed to operate a humanoid robot using Dual- Tone- Multiple- Frequency (DTMF) technology of mobile phones for long range operations. The mobile phone with the operator acts as a transmitter and the one attached to the humanoid robot acts as a receiver and hence no additional communication devices are required. The paper extends the idea of the technology to control a more powerful device like humanoid robots to perform human like actions from large distances. The same can be used for engineering education especially remote triggering virtual laboratory applications.
The team also presented the paper at the 5th International Conference on Electronic Engineering Advanced Communications and Information Technology organized by Beyond University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during November 16-17, 2013. The conference organizers gave a rebate on regimentation fees of US $ 200 to the students for their achievement in presenting the best paper.
“This brilliant work shows that indigenous ideas can be practically implemented successfully. Students did their work by assembling the robot parts, built the control system and programmed to perform various tasks in the Mechatronics and Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory of Department of Mechanical Engineering of our institution,” shared Dr. Ganesh Udupa.
